Memorial Day Chic

I chose some of my all-time favorite designers for my Memorial Day outfit inspiration. I absolutely love this trending electric blue color, so I wanted to incorporate it into an outfit that’s chic, comfortable and casual. Since Memorial Day is usually spent barbecuing at the lake or hanging out with family, I thought that a neutral maxi paired with detailed accessories would be a fun juxtaposition that appears put-together, but not overstated.

Inspiration

I recently was given a wonderful perspective on how to nurture relationships in my life, and thus wanted to share it with you all. To be with someone, you both need to think of yourselves as two trees growing next to each other. Both trees need equal space so they can both grow in each other’s company. They need equal space because one can be overshadowed and wither away if it’s too close to the other. I was so inspired by this idiom that I wanted to whip up a design to encompass this idea. Thus, here is my little creation. Enjoy!

Chanel Resort 2015

Chanel has been a classic fashion empire for over a century and never ceases to amaze editors with their classic yet imaginary collections season after season. Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s couture and ready-to-wear fashion never falls short of innovation, elegance and unsurpassed quality, and the Chanel Resort 2015 collection is no exception. Held in Dubai, this fashion show embodies worldly inspiration with sequins, gilding, earth tones and metallic fabric. The time-honored glamour and style of the middle east is beautifully interpreted by Karl Lagerfeld in these beautifully unique looks. So without further adieu, here are my five favorite looks from the Chanel Resort 2015 collection.

Easy as Pie

One of my all-time favorite recipes is an easy and delicious apple pie. I find it funny how some people are so intimidated by making apple pie from scratch, when it takes just as long to drive to the store and buy one! I love apple pie because it’s total comfort food that I could never get tired of. So naturally, my unparalleled apple pie recipe is from the Betty Crocker cookbook. If you don’t have the book, this recipe is the same from the Betty Crocker website. Bon Apetit!

Cannes Film Festival

Not only is the Cannes Film Festival a highly prestigious celebration of cinematic masterpieces, but it’s also the epicenter of magnificent style. From Chanel to Chopard, every look is awe-inspiring. I wanted to share my top five favorite looks of the festival thus far, which are all very unique yet distinctly gorgeous. Laetitia Casta, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Zoe Saldana and Blake Lively are donning Dior Haute Couture, Armani Prive, Marchesa, Victoria Beckham and Chanel, respectively. I feel that the gowns this year are so aesthetically pleasing because of their summery hues of blue and white, and they feel like a breath of fresh air. I hope you enjoy the elegance of these dresses as much as I do!

Pool Chic

I’ve really been craving earth tones in everything lately! And as an Arizona girl, I’m always on the lookout for warm-weather fashion that’s casual but classy. Thus, I wanted to share some of my wish-list items in these ever-flattering colors. I wanted to make an easy outfit that works around swimwear, in case I’d meet someone for lunch or run errands after the pool. I could easily throw this crisp white sundress over my one-piece, paired with Tory Burch flats and Ray-Bans. I’m also lusting after this Estee Lauder bronzer and Dior Show waterproof mascara, because the quality is unmatched. It’s simple, no-hassle makeup that looks natural and brings out my natural features. Cheers to the weekend!

Easy Barbecue

As a foodie, few things make me happier than a very well executed meal. And this weekend, I has Texas barbecue for the first time; it was incredible! It inspired me to whip up my own version of the barbecue beef brisket sandwich that I devoured. My version is totally from scratch, but you’ll be surprised at how fast, easy and delicious it is! You probably have all of the ingredients just laying around your kitchen.

Aside from FoodGawker, FoodSpotting and Pinterest, my favorite resource for amazing food is my Betty Crocker Cookbook. If you’re craving barbecue, but don’t have expensive cuts of meat or time for a slow cooker, fear not. I love to make barbecue biscuit sliders when I’m short on ingredients and time. For the biscuits, I use this super fast and easy recipe from Betty Crocker.  Secondly, I use this recipe for pulled pork on FoodGawker. If I don’t have nice cuts of meat, I substitute pork with chicken and it tastes exactly the same.

First, I prepare the biscuits and throw them in the oven so they can bake while I prepare the meat. Then, I sear my pork chop or chicken breast in a skillet on medium heat for 3-5 minutes per side. Then, I remove the meat and pull it apart until it resembles the look of pulled pork. Next, I mix the sauce (from the pulled pork recipe) with the meat and cook in the skillet for a few minutes, until the meat is caramelized. When the biscuits are baked and the meat is ready, simply split a biscuit and add as much meat as you want to make your perfect slider.

Here are some mouth-watering pics to get your stomach growling. Bon apetit!

Met Gala

The Met Gala, or the Costume Institute Gala, is annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It is one of New York’s most exclusive events made purely to support fashion, which is why I love it so much! Millions of dollars are raised each year by celebrities for the Costume Institute, and each ticket costs $25,000! There is a theme each year, which keeps the event exciting and relevant for the most anticipation possible. This year’s theme was “white tie,” in honor of legendary designer Charles James. And most notably, the most stylish icons of Hollywood can be seen donning incredibly elegant ensembles at the Met Gala.

Thus, I wanted to share five of my absolute favorite looks from this year’s Met Gala. Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Richie, Emma Stone and Bee Shaffer wear Oscar De La Renta, Victoria Beckham, Donna Karan, Thakoon and Alexander McQueen, respectively. Each gown deserves a standing ovation because they suit each woman’s style, personality and figure perfectly! I hope you enjoy taking in the charm and sophistication of these looks as much as I did.

Happy Birthday Audrey

Few celebrities today possess even a fraction of the talent that was standard in Hollywood 50 years ago; actors and actresses were expected to sing, dance and act with flying colors. And with the incredible renaissance celebrities of the mid 20th century was Audrey Hepburn, one of the most memorable and imitated figures of all time. Not only was she uniquely stylish, beautiful and talented, she was an incredibly compassionate woman and an ambassador for UNICEF. Today marks what would have been Audrey Hepburn’s 85th birthday, and I have always been fascinated with her extraordinary blend of beauty, charisma, talent and style. Since I fell in love with fashion and beauty as a young girl, I have collected four books on her life and learned a lot about my ultimate icon. Happy birthday Audrey, and thank you for continuing to inspire millions of people to this very day.
